Design in Progress

We need to move away from being dependent on Vention products, this will be a clean sheet design:

  • They are not compatible with other similar parts and are often discontinued.

  • Limited choices are causing sub-optimal design decisions.

  • Existing gantry is limited in width, the optimal solution is a gantry that is the width of the entire plot, thus eliminating the need for turning / complex navigation systems.

  • We have decided to use the Farm-ng Amiga robot as the base power unit for BB 3.0

Motion Components

Horizontal linear motion will be done with timing belts. As this is the most cost-effective way to make a repeatable weather resistant setup.

Vertical Motion will be accomplished with a stainless-steel lead screw. These are surprisingly affordable and offer the corrosion resistance and load capability we need.
