AgIR Field Protocols

Our data collection tools are always accompanied by a protocol/manual which explains in detail the tasks that need to be performed at the field, how to use the kit and how to use the app in order to successfully accomplish the data collection. Each plant category has a field protocol which you can access through these links:

Weeds AgIR Field Protocol

Weeds image collection is done in fallow or crop fields where the target species grow naturally. The target plant is imaged from 9 different angles using mats as background to isolate the target individual and guarantee that all that is in the image corresponds to the species name entered by the user in the app. The images plus metadata are entered by the user to the which packages all under one unique name. These packages of data and metadata are later on uploaded to the cloud using the same app.

Cash Crop and Cover Crop AgIR Field Protocol

Cash crop and cover crop imaging is done in variety and breeding trials as well as in fields specifically set up for this purpose. The target in this case are rows of the crop of interest and not individual plants like it is for weeds. The image target area is called a scene and each scene is imaged at two angles: top down and 30o. Mats are used to cover the inner rows and weeds that are pocking out of the crop are eliminated before collecting the images to guarantee that all the plant material in the image corresponds to the target crop. All data and metadata are entered into the app, packaged together under a unique name and uploaded to the cloud later on.
